Instructor Biograghy: Laurence Renner
Mr. Renner is a retired firefighter with peace officer status. He served 26 years at departments around San Diego County including Santee, Alpine, Borrego Springs and 18 years with North County Fire in the Fallbrook area.
The last 6 years he was assigned to the Arson Investigation Unit and was the Rangemaster and Use of Force instructor for the unit. Mr. Renner was also assigned as a Tactical EMT and assisted the San Diego Sheriff’s SED team as medical support when they served high risk warrants in the Fallbrook area.
Mr. Renner has been a professional instructor for over 20 years and has taught such diverse subjects as fire science, emergency intubation, semi-automatic defibrillation for E.M.T.’s, marksmanship (with handguns, shotguns, rifles and select fire weapons), baton/impact weapons, aerosol chemical agents, pepper ball weapons and defensive driving. Five years was spent as the Shotgun Rangemaster for a nationally recognized firearm training institute.
Mr. Renner is certified by the California State Fire Marshal’s Office as a
Fire Officer, Fire Apparatus Engineer, Arson Investigator I, Fire Instructor and has held certifications as an EMT 1A,C,D,T (Combi-tube, Defibrillator, Tactical).

The National Rifle Association has certified Mr. Renner to teach law enforcement handgun, shotgun and tactical courses. Additionally he is certified to teach civilians rifle, pistol and personal protection.
Mr. Renner is a licensed firearm instructor through the California Department of Consumer Affairs Bureau of Security and Investigative Services number TIF 941 to train and qualify personnel to be armed security officers.
Mr. Renner works part time as the Training Coordinator for Rancho Santa Fe Protective Services and part time for Grossmont College as a firearm instructor for their police academy. Mr. Renner is approved by the Sheriff’s Department to teach the Safety Training Course for Carry Concealed Weapons Permit applicants.
Mr. Renner has an extensive training history and attended such shooting schools or training facilities as Front Sight, Lethal Force Institute, Smith and Wesson Academy, Thunder Ranch, CONTOMS, Heckler and Koch, National Rifle Association, Glock, Suarez International, San Diego County Sheriff‘s Rangemaster training and the Leatham Shooting Institute.
In addition to training, Mr. Renner is an avid competitor and has World, State, Regional and local titles to his credit. Mr. Renner competes in action shooting events such as International Defensive Pistol Association (IDPA), United States Practical Shooting Association (USPSA) Glock Sport Shooting Foundation (GSSF) and NRA Police Pistol Combat (PPC).
